One more day
12 photos of 15 x 20 cm
1 copper etching printed on paper 15 x 20 cm
Espacio de Arte Contemporáneo EAC, Montevideo, Uruguay.
2010
The photographs were taken by the artist at 2-hour intervals during a whole day (24 hours) inside the cell of the former Miguelete prison while it was still undergoing refurbishment works prior to the opening of the Espacio de Arte Contemporáneo.
The window of the prison cell is obsessively observed. Subtle differences in light show the passing of time. The window as a symbol, communication with the outside world and a yearning for freedom. The bars recalling and reaffirming the confinement. The changing light is what makes us aware of the passage of time, just by looking at them we watch another day go by - despite the subtle differences, past, present and future are the same.
